![]() ![]() Terry Pratchett’s most famous fantasy book series is set in the imaginary realm of Discworld. Terry Pratchett Discworld Reading Order.About Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Series. If you are ok with starting later in the series, but still want the beginning of a subseries Going Postal (Moist von Lipwig series, former crook has to reform the post office) or The Wee Free Men (Tiffany Aching series for young adults, Tiffany has to battle the queen of the faeries, with the help of a clan of blue tattooed picties) are great choices. ![]() If you want to start relatively early and at the beginning of a subseries Mort (death series, death hires an apprentice), Wyrd Sisters (witches series, Macbeth discworld style) or Guards! Guards! (watch series, city watch has to deal with dragon invasion) are good options.I started here and I was perfectly fine, but I can see why other people would not want to read on if this was their first encounter with Discworld. If you feel you might like silly fantasy parodies and can deal with the fact that it is maybe not the most polished one in the series The Colour of Magic (Rincewind the incompetent wizard has to play tourguide for the Discs first tourist) might be it.This reading order tells you which is publishing order and how the books connect, an alternative reading order is this one. The only one I would keep until (almost) the end of your journey is The Sheperd's Crown (the final one published) as it really is a goodbye to the Discworld. So my general advice is: as a first just pick one that attracts your interest (maybe do 2 or 3 if your not entirely convinced) and then go by publication order for the full experience. That being said, Pratchett was experimenting a lot early in the series and the first 10 or so can be a bit of hit and miss (The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic in particular, may not be everyone's taste) and the first one should really get you hooked. However Pratchetts writing and with it the world and its characters develop over the course of the books, so reading in publication order (or at least by subseries) makes the experience (even) more enjoyable. The nice thing about discworld is that each book is a story on its own, so in principle you can read in any order you like. ![]()
